The work is focused on an overview of containers used in road, rail and shipping. Gives the distribution by type, size and mode of transport. In this work is situated a brief description of containers structure. Part of the work is devoted to handling equipment at container terminals. It describes their properties and the possibility of mounting containers.

The bachelor´s thesis is research which focuses on transferring a container unit from the ship and the movement with unit in the terminal.It also describes automatization of transfer operations in the harbour, Rotterdam - the biggest european harbour and in the end points to the most frequent routes for cargo shipping.
